EL CENTRO â€“ On Saturday, May 9, 2015 at approximately 5:10 a.m., the California Highway Patrol Dispatch advised of a traffic collision with an ambulance responding that occurred on State Route 78, westbound at Hovley Road.
Upon the arrival of Officer A. Ocampo, a silver Dodge Ram was located on the North dirt shoulder of westbound State Route 78 west of Hovley Road, on its wheels, with visible signs of collision damage.
There was also a blue Oldsmobile Cutlass on the North dirt Shoulder of State Route 78, west of Hovley Road, east of the final resting place of the Dodge, on its wheels, also with visible signs of collision damage.
The driver of the blue Oldsmobile was driving northbound on Hovley Road, entered State Route 111, and proceeded straight across westbound on State Route 78.
The driver of the Doge was traveling westbound on State Route 78, proceeded to drive through the intersection with Hovley Road, and the front of the Dodge collided with the right side of the Oldsmobile.
The 64-year-old, Rogelio Hernandez male from Brawley, CA, driving the Dodge Ram was transported to Pioneers Memorial Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries, and the 57-year-old male, also from Brawley, CA, driving the Oldsmobile Cutlass, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The cause of this collision is still under investigation.
