CHP – Fatal Traffic Collision On I-8


CHP new logoEL CENTRO – On Monday, March 24, 2014 at approximately 5:28 p.m. Filomeo Cajigas III age 50 of Brawley, was driving a 2004 Ford F-250 westbound on I-8 in the #1 lane traveling at around 70-75 mph.

As Cajigas was driving, the left front tire of the Ford sustained tire tread separation, causing it to travel out of control toward the dirt center divider of I-8.

The Ford continued to travel out of control and overturned across the median and came to rest on its roof within the median.

Cajigas sustained fatal injuries as a result of the traffic collision and was declared deceased at the scene by paramedics at 5:30 p.m.

Both passengers Denise Cajigas, age 47 of Brawley and Sophia Romo age 2 of Brawley were transported by Calexico Ambulance to El Centro Medical Center for treatment.

Passanger Denise Cajigas sustained minor injuries of pain to the head and arm.

Sophia Romo sustained no injuries.

This Collision is still under investigation.
