CHP – Fatal Traffic Collision on Aten Road


CHP new logoEL CENTRO – On Saturday, July 12, 2014 at approximately 2:45 a.m. Party 2, Carlos Abundis, age 33 of Imperial, was driving a 2014 Toyota 4Runner, traveling Northbound on State Route 111 in the #1 lane of South Aten Road at approximately 70 mph.

Party 1 (name withheld) age 26 of Imperial, was driving a Kawasaki motorcycle also traveling Northbound on State Route 111 at a high rate of speed approaching the rear of Party 2.

Party 1 impacted the rear of Party 2, ejecting Party 1 from his motorcycle and inflicted blunt force trauma causing fatal injuries.

The Impact cause Party 2 to lose control of his vehicle and his vehicle overturned.

Party 2 sustained no injuries in this collision. His female passenger, Karycia Abundis was transported to ECRMC for a complaint of pain to her neck and face.

Party 2 was using a properly installed infant car seat for his male infant. The infant was transported to ECRMC as a precautionary measure but did not appear to have any injuries.

This collision is still under investigation.
