EL CENTRO – On June 23, 2014, at approximately 7:23 AM, a CHP officer made an enforcement stop on a white Chevrolet passenger van on SR-86, south of Keystone Rd for a vehicle code violation.
The CHP officer made contact with the driver, Julio C. Meza age 30 of Las Vegas, and immediately detected drug smuggling indicators. A CHP K-9 unit was requested. The CHP K-9 unit arrived on scene and the K-9 dog alerted to the vehicle.
Officers discovered two thousand pounds of marijuana inside the vehicle with an approximate street value of one million dollars.
The driver was arrested for felony possession and transportation of marijuana.
The investigation was turned over to the Imperial County Narcotics Task Force.
