BRAWLEY – On June 29, 2014, at approximately 1:40 PM, a CHP officer spotted an abandoned vehicle (1998 Ford Explorer) on the right shoulder of SR-86 northbound, just south of Fredericks Rd.
The CHP officer observed signs of drug trafficking on his initial approach and requested a K-9 unit.
A Border Patrol K-9 unit arrived on scene and the K-9 alerted to the vehicle.Â A search resulted in the discovery of 71 lbs. of heroin and 22 lbs. of methamphetamine hidden inside the vehicle.
The Imperial County Narcotics Task Force was requested and the case was turned over to them for follow-up investigation.Â The heroin has an approximate street value of $710,000 and the meth has an approximate street value of $147,500.
