BRAWLEY – After 14 years of successful welcome back teachers luncheons, the Brawley Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the first Welcome Back Teachers Dinner to be held Sept 19th.
“We wanted to do something a little different this year,” said Chamber Executive Director Jason Zara. “The luncheon was a wonderful event but there was always a feeling that it was rushed as the teachers tried to get back to work. We are hoping the dinner will really show our appreciation for our teachers and give them an enjoyable evening.”
Hacienda will still be catering and they are promising something great, something besides the traditional tri-tip and cheesy potatoes.
“There are a couple of reasons we decided to change the event from a lunch to a dinner,” said Liz Gonzalez, Chamber Board Secretary and head of the Teachers Dinner Committee. “The main reason is that we wanted to keep it fresh and new! Secondly, a dinner will allow teachers and administrators to relax and enjoy the event versus having to rush back to work after lunch. Introducing the Teacher of the Year ceremony will allow all nominees to invite family and friends to participate in the accolades being bestowed upon them.”
The Chamber is not alone in wanting to welcome back the teachers and expressing appreciation for their service. More than a dozen sponsors have already signed on and members of the business community are excited for the opportunity to show their support. Attendees at the dinner will receive gifts, business information and office supplies for their classrooms, with additional door prizes as well.
The event will be located at the Lions Center, 225 “A” Street in Brawley. Tickets are $15 and are available at the Brawley Chamber of Commerce and the Brawley Union High School District. While the focus of the event is educators and their families, tickets are available to the general public as well.
