Central’s Spartans Defeat the Shadow Hills Knights in Home Opener

EL CENTRO – Hosting Indio’s Shadow Hill Knights December 2, the Central Union High Spartans pushed through the second half of the match, defeating the Knights and giving Central its first win of the season.

On the cold Friday night, Shadow Hills started the game quickly working the ball down the field, however, Central’s defense proved ready by clearing the ball as soon as any striker entered the box.

Shadow Hills also demonstrated defensive skills by preventing Central from scoring in multiple close calls throughout the entire first half of play.

The game saw its first real excitement early in the second half, when Central striker Carlos Osuna (#9), kicked one into the back of the net, giving the Spartans their only goal of the evening.

That goal proved to be the deciding factor of the game, as Shadow Hills fought back without any success of putting one in the net.

“We are a fairly young team,” said Spartan Head Coach Demian Rodiles. “I am pleased to see we were able to pull together to get the job done this early in the season.”

With this win over the Shadow Hill Knights, the Spartans claim their first victory of the season, bringing their record to 1-1. Central Union High will move on next to face the Coronado Islanders in Coronado.
