EL CENTRO — The Central Spartans faced off against the Brawley Wildcats for a home track meet that ended with a big win for Central, 93-34, on Thursday, April 21. The Lady Spartans also made quick work of the Brawley team, winning 77-50 at the same meet.
“Overall I am very proud of all the athletes because of their hard work and determination to beat their personal records every week” says Central’s coach, Silda Valdez.
Central shined in the 110m 39″ hurdles, Spartans Steve Gonzalez and Jacob Reed tied for first with a time of 17.03. Bridger Cook from Brawley was the only one to come close to Central’s time with a 17.87.
For the woman, the 4 x 100 relay Central took that event as well with a time of 52.12, Brawley close behind with a 52.85. The last event for Central, pushing the men to their already secured victory was the long jump where Saad Awan reached a new personal best of 20’ 7″.
“The event that really stood out today to me was the 400 x 1 relay with the race being real close on the men’s, and woman’s side with the anchors really bringing it home for us,” said coach Silda Valdez.
