CALEXICO — On Monday, October 26, 2013, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Calexico East port of entry Thursday arrested a woman after discovering heroin hidden inside plastic containers of motor oil that were stored in the trunk of her car.
The incident occurred at about 4 p.m. on Oct. 24, when CBP officers referred a 23-year-old female U.S. citizen driving a 2012 Honda Accord for further inspection after she entered the port from Mexico.
During an intensive inspection, a CBP canine team screened the vehicle and the detector alerted. Officers subsequently discovered 25 wrapped packages containing 3.6 pounds of heroin concealed within five sealed containers of motor oil.
The heroin has an estimated street value of $32,400.
The driver, a resident of Burbank, California, was turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) agents for further processing and was later transported to the Imperial County Jail to await arraignment.
CBP seized the vehicle and narcotics.
