CALIPATRIA – Youth for Christ’s Campus Life group hosted this week’s Fifth Quarter in the Hornet’s basketball gym for an evening of games and fellowship after Calipatria’s big football win Friday.

The fun began with local students gathering to play volleyball and basketball. While students played, Campus Life posted sign-ups for competitions to win prizes ranging from gift cards to an all-expenses paid trip for two to Six Flags Magic Mountain.

Moving from the competition and prizes, Campus Life volunteers presented their testimonies of how they came to know Jesus as Lord of their lives.

Using scripture and talking about the miracles in their lives, the speakers reached the students and explained how real Biblical principles could apply in their lives.

“By putting on these Fifth Quarters, it allows students to hear the Word of God and hopefully come to the Lord,” explained Jeremiah Vik, the executive director and pastor of Youth for Christ, Imperial Valley.

Campus Life sponsors a club on every campus in the Imperial Valley. When students attend these Fifth Quarters and are moved by the words of the Bible and testimonies of their classmates, they are able to meet with the club at school for further guidance, said Vik.

Students not only have a place to go with others of their faith, but a place to find answers when they have questions about the Bible, to continue growing, he said. Campus Life also makes it a goal to aid these new believers in finding a church with sound doctrine to continue growing in their new- found faith.

“When a new student comes to Christ or even a member of the Campus Life is looking for a church to attend, we assist them by find one close to their home that does teach the Bible and has that sound doctrine to build from,” Vik said.

With the evening came to a close, Calipatria’s Fifth Quarter ended in a word of prayer to bless those that had been touched by the Lord in hopes they would continue their walk with God.

Campus Life’s next 5th Quarter will be September 9 in El Centro right after the football game in the Spartan gym.
