Viewing services will be held on Tuesday, September 6, at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley from 9-11:00 a.m. followed by graveside and burial services at the Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro at 11:30 a.m.

Memorial tributes and flowers may be made to Frye Chapel in the Calhoun Family’s name, 799 California 86, Brawley, CA 92227.

It is with great sorrow that we report the passing of our brother, father, and grandfather, Calvin Levi Calhoun who passed away on Monday, August 29th at the age of 90.

Calvin was born in Haskel County, Oklahoma to John Wesley and Bessie Calhoun. At the age of 18, he joined the Navy Reserve and was inducted on December 15, 1943 as an Apprentice Seaman during World War II. He participated in operations in Japan and the Philippines and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal on July, 12, 1944. He was honorably discharged from the Navy after the war on May 31, 1946. Shortly after, he moved to the Imperial Valley where he met his wife, Jackie. Calvin. He worked for over 30 years at the Hydro Conduit Company in Calipatria, where he and Jackie built their home and raised three sons.

Calvin will be remembered and always admired for his silent strength, hard work ethic and dedication to his family and country.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vernell “Jackie” Calhoun.

Calvin is survived by sons Harlan L. Calhoun of El Centro, Paul R. Calhoun of Altha, FL, and Jeffrey L. Calhoun of San Diego, brother Melvin Calhoun, daughter-in-law’s Beatriz, Katie and Virginia, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
