Calipatria Hornets Host and Win Baseball Double Header

1CALIPATRIA – The Calipatria High Hornets hosted a double header Saturday afternoon, scoring 26-7 and 16-0 victories over High Tech NC High School of San Marcos behind strong swings from Victor Ortiz and Isaac Chavez who both batted 1.000 on the day.

Ortiz posted a 5-5 mark hitting three singles a double and a home run while Chavez went 4-4 with three singles and a triple. Jared Hatfield and Julian Medina picked up the wins in the pitching department.

“In the first game, our offense set the tone early. We had a lot of great at-bats early in the game, which lead to high scoring innings,” said Calipat Head Coach David Corona of the first game’s 26-7 victory.

“In the second, we continued where we left off,” he added of the 16-0 victory, which was in the end forfeited due to a pitching shortage.

With the wins, the Hornets are now 4-1 on the season and will next travel to Mountain Empire Thursday night followed by Southwest next Monday.

“Last year we made it to the Division V CIF San Diego Section championship and fell short. We are on a journey to make it back and bring back the championship,” said Corona.
