Calipatria hit with 4.1 quake, several aftershocks follow

CALIPATRIA — An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.1 hit seven miles west, northwest of Calipatria Wednesday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake struck at about 8:15 p.m. and had a depth of 0 miles. The epicenter was near the Red Hill Marina at the Salton Sea.

There were no initial reports of injuries or damage.

A series of smaller aftershocks, ranging from 2.6-magnitude to 3.3-magnitude, hit the area minutes later, according to the USGS.
