Calexico students placed on lock down for their safety

CALEXICO – At approximately 3:00 p.m., the Calexico Police Department was dispatched to a residence at the 1100 of Eady Avenue regarding a report of shots being fired.  When officers arrived, the suspect had already been identified and was still on the scene.  The surrounding schools were then placed on “lock down” status for the protection of the students.

The Eady Avenue residence was surrounded and attempts to talk the suspect out were unsuccessful.

California Highway Patrol, US Border Patrol were requested.  While trying to get the suspect to surrender peacefully, the police determined there were five residents still in the home with the suspect.  Three of the residents were able to run out and meet with Calexico Police Department officers.

Trapped were two disabled elderly that could not escape.  Coordinating with US Border Patrol’s elite team BORTAC, a rescue mission was planned.  BORTAC approached the residence and rescued the elderly and took the suspect into custody.  No injuries were sustained by anyone.

There is an ongoing investigation, more details will be revealed when available.
