Calexico Holds First Annual Mother-Son Night Out

CALEXICO – Dressed in beautiful evening gowns and suits, mothers and sons enjoyed a memorable night at Calexico’s first annual Mother-Son Night Out at the Community Center on Saturday May 2.

Blanca Ramirez, Calexico resident who attended this banquet with her four-year old-son Fernando Ramirez said, “This is the first time I have done something like this with my son. My husband and daughter attend the Father-Daughter event yearly. This year I decided to try it, and I am very happy.”

Dinner and dancing was the menu as the couples enjoyed each other’s company and created memories for a lifetime.

“I am very pleased the City of Calexico was able to make this event happen. It has been cancelled the previous years since the turn-out was low,” said Socorro Ramirez, Calexico resident.

“I hardly get to spend time with my mom due to school, homework, and other things. I am happy to be here with her,” Sebastian Ramirez, 11-year-old Calexico resident said.

“We had a great turnout. We sold 78 tickets and expect more couples to attend,” reported Carmen Maldonado, City of Calexico Recreations Department Program Coordinator.

“My brother Sebastian and I asked my mom last year, ‘when is our turn?’ When my dad and sister attended the father-daughter dance.” said Esteban Ramirez, 12-year old Calexico resident.

Sandra Tauler, City of Calexico Community Service Director attended the event with her grandson, Izayah Tauler.
