EL CENTRO – The Calexico Bulldogs (7-6) baseball team came away with a win against the Central Spartans (5-8) Tuesday, April 12. Because of conference game rules, Calexico broke the tied game in the tenth inning. Robbie Munoz (#17) for Calexico hit a towering two-run homer that secured a team victory with a score of 5-1.
“I was given the signal from my coach to swing away and I did,” says Robbie Munoz. “I also went to plate and had fun at bat. It really helped out the team in the end.”
Until this at bat, the score remained tied since the first inning, where both teams scored. Tight defenses kept each team retiring their bats without scoring.
Pitcher for Central, C.J Bermudez, (#25) pitched all the way up till the ninth inning, where he was replaced by C.J Lagakes (#10) who gave up the homerun that lead to their defeat.
“The game started of a little slow for us, but we were able to make up for it in the end that helped us win here tonight,” says head coach Jerry Nielba. “I would like to add that Central’s coach, Gene Martin, always comes ready to play, and tonight we just chipped away. That made the difference for us.”[envira-gallery id=”75614″]
