CALEXICO -The Calexico Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development Committee will be hosting its second business workshop series. This month, there will be banking and financing roundtable discussing the state of banking in Calexico and the recent closures.
Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia will be present at the meeting as well as representatives of the offices of State Senator Ben Hueso and Rep. Juan Vargas giving a legislative update on the banking situation in the border.
“With the recent closures of bank branches in Calexico, the Chamber of Commerce wanted to provide a forum for the banks, the community, and our legislators to interact and discuss the problem. Physical bank branches provide an essential service to the community.” said Daniel Fitzgerald, President of the Calexico Chamber of Commerce.
Participating banks will be First Imperial Credit Union, Rabobank, Sun Community Credit Union, Union Bank, and Wells Fargo Bank. There will also be a presentation by the Consulate of Mexico in Calexico talking about binational financing opportunities.
“The local economy will be negatively impacted so we at the Chamber of Commerce will continue to keep the business community informed while we continue to lobby our federal and state legislators, nation-wide business organizations who can lobby on our behalf and all communities along the US and Mexico border. Calexico being a border city, our concerns are not limited to Calexico; the impact is Valley wide including Mexicali.” Daniel Romero, Chairman of the Calexico Chamber EDC, said.
The workshop will take place Friday, April 24, 2015 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Family Style Buffet, 222 East Cole Road, Calexico, CA.
