Martin Garza, slain Brawley teen

EL CENTRO – In the early morning hours of Sunday, January 6th, the El Centro Police Department began investigating the stabbing death of a 17 year old male juvenile.  Cooperating witnesses gave detectives a number of valuable leads on the identity of the suspect.  Working diligently since, detectives were able to get the sole suspect; Martin Gabriel Andrade positively identified as the alleged person who stabbed the Brawley, CA. teenager.

Last night El Centro Police detectives, along with other law enforcement officers served a search warrant at a home on East 3rd Street in Heber, CA.  19 year old Andrade was found inside the home and arrested without incident.  Investigators also recovered undisclosed items of evidence, likely related to the homicide.

“Andrade; a member of an El Centro street gang, who has a variety of previous arrests, is in custody because of the excellent work of our witnesses and our detectives”, said Commander Jeff Mason.

After the arrest, Detective Sergeant John Seaman drove to Brawley and informed the victim’s family about the suspect being in custody.

Andrade was booked into the Imperial County Jail, charged with murder and is being held on a bail of 1 million dollars.

“I’m glad that we were able to do something so quickly on this case,” said Mason.
