BRAWLEY — The Brawley Union High School Wildcats hosted the Gila Ridge Hawks this past Tuesday night continuing with their momentum from last weekend’s Tiger Classic championship, with a 30-point victory over the Hawks.
“That was one of the most tenacious 30-point wins we’ve ever battled through. Gila Ridge fought from start to finish,” said Brawley Wildcat head coach, Jeffery Deyo.
Throughout the game it was the the Wildcat defensive pressure that caused turnover after turnover, although the Hawks would stay in the game for two and a half quarters before junior Jonathan Zarate entered the game. Up 36-27, Zarate would score nine straight points for the Wildcats and Isaiah Bustamante would add a layup of his own to lead the Wildcats to an 11-point run giving them a 20-point lead.
The Wildcats outscored the Hawks 25-9 in the fourth quarter giving them the 76-46 victory on the night.
“We played really hard, but not exceptionally well,” said Deyo.
Up next, the Wildcats will host the Cibola High Raiders Thursday night in Brawley with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
