Brawley PD Arrests Man for Attempted Kidnapping and Drug Possession

BRAWLEY – On July 6, 2014, at around 6:30 pm, the Brawley Police Department Communications Center received a 911 emergency call from a residence located on the 900 block of J Street.

The female caller advised there was an unknown subject, later identified as 35 year old Brawley transient Robert Edward Barrientos, located in her backyard where her 5 year old daughter was playing.

The caller reported Barrientos claimed the residence belonged to him and threated to take the caller’s 5 year old girl. Barrientos attempted to grab the little girl and leave, but the mother physically protected the girl and Barrientos fled the area.

The girl was not injured during the altercation. Responding Brawley police officers located the subject one block away in the area of J Street and Cesar Chavez Street.

Barrientos was taken into custody without incident. He was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and under the influence of a controlled substance.

Barrientos was booked into the Imperial County Jail on charges of attempted kidnapping and possession of a controlled substance.
