CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – After a stellar 2-0 week in the circle for the 22nd-ranked LIU Post softball team, junior Megan Salcido (Brawley, Calif.) was recognized as the East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Picking up her first two wins of the season, Salcido allowed just one earned run (and one unearned) in 16.2 innings of work for an ERA of 0.42. She surrendered just 16 hits while fanning nine, keeping her opponents to a batting average of .254.
In the nightcap against Bridgeport (Apr. 1), the junior pitched a complete-game shutout, scattering five hits and two walks while striking out three.
The green and gold swept all three ECC series during the week to increase its winning streak to 18. The Pioneers picked up wins against Bridgeport (3-1, 9-0), St. Thomas Aquinas (6-3, 14-4), and Queens (6-4, 6-1). Senior shortstop Nicole Hagenah (Commack, N.Y.) led LIU Post at the plate with a .545 average (12-for-22), .565 on-base percentage and a whopping 1.136 slugging percentage by smacking three doubles, two triples and two home runs for a total of 25 bases.
This week, LIU Post will host league foes NYIT (Apr. 8) and Molloy (Apr. 10), before heading to Mercy (Apr. 12) and Caldwell (Apr. 13) over the weekend.
