BRAWLEY – A Brawley man who failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Highway 86 and Wildcat has been arrested and jailed for  causing a car crash that killed another Brawley man, Richard Casey, 58 years old, on Sunday.

Scotty De La Torre, 27,  is held at the Imperial County Jail on felony charges of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.

About 4 p.m. Sunday, Brawley police say he was driving an SUV and crashed into another vehicle stopped at a red light. That launched the stopped car into another car making a legal turn at the intersection.

That car was driven by Casey. Casey’s car burst into flames, trapping him, and killing him.

Casey worked for Bloom to Box Crop Care in Calipatria.
