BRAWLEY – Big blasts bring people to their feet and the Brawley Little League 11-12 All Star team certainly provided a bunch of entertainment on Saturday. Three home runs drove Brawley to a 10-5 victory over Lemon Grove.
They took an early lead when Jonathan Gonzalez hit a two run-home run in the bottom of the First.
In the bottom of the Second, Jon Jay Aguirre homered over center field giving Brawley the edge 3-1. RBI’s by Nathan Torrez and Jude Littrell further advanced the score 5-1.
Lemon Grove answered back with a barrage of runs in the top of the Third tying the score 5-5. Strategic pitching by Jonathan Gonzalez shut them down.
The boys’ hitting streak prompted a swarm of RBI’s by Nathan Torrez and Jonathan Gonzalez finishing the Third inning 9-5.
A hard line drive solo homerun over center field by Wyatt Hensley increased the lead 10-5.
The boys were able to hold Lemon Grove and end the game with Brawley the victor. Manager, Alex Torrez, says he is “hoping to play the same way.
All the boys were playing good, even the substitutes.” When asked about how they will prepare for tomorrow’s game against San Diego’s Sweetwater All Star team, he said “The team is good. They are champions. They are a dangerous team and can hurt us any time. They are capable of doing damage. We just hope to play the way we have been playing”.
