Brawley Grapplers take CIF

BRAWLEY – Wildcat Coach Tony Leon took his wrestling team to Olympian High in San Diego to win an unprecedented 14th CIF, Division 3, title.  The BUHS Wildcats have done what no other team, in any sport, has ever done – dominated the CIF title 14 times in a row.


Brawley’s four champs came when Vincent Elizalde, Isaac Moreno, Daxton Gordon and Jesse Ruelas swept the weight classes from 113 to 132 pounds. For Elizalde it was his fourth section title.


Taking 2nd at CIF are Jacob Moreno, Steven Baeza, Noe Gonzalez, and

Fernando Acuna.


Marcos Martinez placed 3rd and Blake Zeleny took 4th.


Placing 5th are Victor Gonzalez and Daniel Juarequi,


Jacob Ordonez came in 7th.


The Wildcat wrestlers’ hard work, dedication, and unity was on display at the first stop of the wrestling post season.

The top six in each weight class will move on to the CIF Masters tournament next week at Mission Hills.

Holtville wins CIF Division 4

Holtville wrestlers also won their CIF wrestling division with three champions, Phillip Gutierrez, Lance Angulo, and Jessy Diaz.  This is Lance Angulo’s second CIF victory, the first being when his football team also won their CIF division.
