BRAWLEY – The City Council took action on several measures that paved the way for upcoming Cattle Call events Tuesday evening.
Beer sales permits led the action measures.
You will be able to buy beer from Brawley Elks Lodge, Brawley Chamber of Commerce, and the soon-to-open restaurant Inferno 800 near Plaza Park during Cattle Call events.
The Cattle Call Parade theme for 2014 is “Red, White, and Blue.”
Major cleanup is in full swing throughout the city. A volunteer-based cleanup crew is focusing on the Main street corridor.
Some new improvements are planned for the downtown area.
The Kiwanis Club of Brawley is spearheading the rehabilitation of the Kiosk in North Plaza Park.
New banners are being made for the Main Street light poles.
New park benches, planters, and bike racks will be installed in several locations downtown.
A piano-themed crosswalk will be painted between the Post Office and City Hall.
A temporary Cattle Call themed mural will be painted on the plywood front of the remains of the A-1 Furniture store. A local artist has volunteered to do the mural. After Cattle Call, a demolition is planned for the remains of the fire to be cleaned up.
When and where to place chairs for the parade has become an issue the past couple of years.
The City Council has adopted some new protocols for this year’s parade.
On the wide sidewalks, you may put the chairs up to the curb, but you are asked to leave a minimum of 5 feet clearance for pedestrian traffic. On the narrow sidewalks, you asked not to block the sidewalks and must put chairs on the grass leaving the sidewalks free. Do not block driveways.
Chairs may be placed on Main Street for the parade no earlier than 6:00 a.m. the day before the parade and must be removed immediately after the parade.
The City is not responsible for theft.
The Queen Horsemanship Contest starts off the Brawley Cattle Call festivities Wednesday, October 15, at 7:00 p.m. at the Cattle Call Arena.
It’s time to break out the proper attire.
