Brawley Fire Department holds open house

BRAWLEY – The City of Brawley Fire Department held its open house at the new Fire Station No. 2 Saturday.

The new Fire Station No. 2 on 1505 Jones Street opened in May of 2012. Located just south of the Brawley Municipal Airport, the station offers quicker fire response and services to the Eastern side of town.

Demonstrations and refreshments were offered to the large number of neighborhood families that took part in the festivities.

Shaved ice and hotdogs were free to the public. The children received fire helmets.

The kids were given the chance to hold a fire hose and knock down some safety cones.

The local REACH air ambulance made an appearance and the kids took photos with the helicopter.

Firefighters took apart a car with the “Jaws of Life.”

The kids were able to go through the Fire Safety House, where a house on fire is simulated and they had to crawl to an open window and climb out.

The open house is part of the Brawley Fire Department’s community outreach. They also visit schools to help promote fire safety.
