BRAWLEY – At the regular BESD board meeting, Brawley Police Commander Brett Houser commended the Brawley Elementary School Patrol, Squad 3 of Phil Swing School, for their exemplary work on March 7, 2014.

Commander Houser said that the Brawley Police were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle in the morning of March 7, when the thieves turned back into Brawley and headed toward the Phil Swing Elementary School.

Houser said, “That absolutely freaked us out.”

The call went out for the Safety Patrol to clear the streets and those on duty acted quickly and with due diligence.

Houser said, “The safety patrol did exactly as we asked, they were amazing, they kept people safe.”

The Brawley Police held an award ceremony, March 28, with the parents and Squad 3 to honor them for their help.

Commander Houser said that the suspects were apprehended after crashing.

“As an administrator, it is awesome to have the community at the smallest level, the little guys, jump in,” Houser told the board. ”We are very appreciative.”
