Remains of detonated suspicious package are inspected at Brawley Police Department

BRAWLEY – On March 21, 2015, at around 1245 pm, a concerned Brawley citizen brought a suspected explosive device to the Brawley Police Department building. To ensure public safety, Main Street and West Plaza Street were closed. The Imperial County Hazmat/Bomb Squad responded. The suspicious package was detonated on scene. It was later determined the package did not contain any explosive material.

“We received a call from Brawley dispatch about a suspicious package,” said Tony Rouhotas, Jr., Imperial County Fire Chief/Office of Emergency Services Coordinator. “They informed us there was an encounter with a gentleman earlier in the day and this device was brought to the station and set on the front step. We used our protocol to render safe the suspicious package and open it to make sure there was nothing harmful. We found nothing harmful.”
