BESD Board honors Barbara Worth Students of the Month

BRAWLEY – Two 7th grade Barbara Worth Junior High students were honored Tuesday at the monthly Brawley Elementary Board of Supervisors meeting at the district office.

After a moment of silence in honor of Martin Garza, the recipients were presented to the board by vice principal Brian Taylor. The students received certificates of recognition, bumper stickers, two gift certificates for Sizzlers and In-N-Out Burgers, and their names on the district plaque of students of the month for the 2012-2013 school year.

The first recipient was Sarah Chelner.  She said that her favorite class is language arts and when asked which of her teachers inspired her, she said they all do and encourage her to learn.  Chelner does plan to go on to BUHS and receive her high school diploma and from there plans to go to college in San Diego to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse.

The other student, Marlen Coronado is a 3.8 honor roll student that said she likes all of her classes at school and is inspired the most by her teacher Ms. Soto because she learns something new everyday with her.    She would like to attend college, though unsure where exactly, and would one day like to be a junior high math teacher.

Coronado was also honored in October as the PTO student of the month at the Lion’s Center, but was unable to attend due to being hospitalized for a surgical procedure.

Also on the board agenda was an update on the financial state of the distract, the progress of the junior high shade project,  and a presentation was given an the update for the plans to build the new gym.
