Benjamin Loyd Maloney
October 22, 1936 – March 31, 2016
Benjamin Loyd Maloney was born October 22, 1936 at the Brawley hospital. He went home to be with the Lord on March 31, 2016 at the age of 79. Benny was raised and lived most of his life in Westmorland. He was the youngest child of Loyd and Nettie (Martin) Maloney whose parents, Ben and Annie Martin, were pioneers of Westmorland.
Benny was a hobby enthusiast. He loved building and flying model airplanes until his health declined
and he went to live with his nephew, James Lindly, in Chesapeake, VA and most recently, Modesto, CA.
Ben, as he was referred to by co-workers, spent most of his earning years in the farm machinery industry, working as a mechanic.
Benny was known for his easy going nature, generosity and love for family and friends. In most
recent years, he could be found chatting frequently with the locals at the Westmorland Post Office.
Benny’s faith was important to him. He and his wife, Bertie, attended the Lighthouse Church in Westmorland for many years.
The Graveside Service for Benjamin will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Brawley and will be officiated by Pastor Dick Holiman from The Lighthouse Church in Westmorland.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley.
Benjamin is preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Nettie (Martin) Maloney, his wife, Bertie, his eldest son, Benjie, his sister, Evelyn Sullivan, and his niece, Virginia Carley.
Benjamin is survived by, his children, Jeanne, Danny (Shelly), and Buddy in Oregon and Mickey and Ruby in Texas, his sister, Dorothy Gatewood of Westmorland, his nieces and nephews Annie Aja, Lloyd and James (Anne) Lindly, Elaine (Harold) Archer, Terrie Sullivan and Cindy (Wayne) Wright, and cousin, Harley Martin.
