EL CENTRO – The Southwest Eagles baseball team hosted the Holtville Vikings for the second match up in league play on April 26 with Southwest dominating the game from the get-go.
All the way through the fourth inning, the Eagles had back-to-back rallies that allowed them to score. Senior Miguel Rodriguez (#10) had a tremendous game with three RBIs off one hit. Joseph Jazek (#2) had a hard hit ball to left field that allowed his teammate to score for Southwest’s final run of the night.
Although Southwest dominated most of the game, the Holtville Vikings answered back with two runs of their own in the first three innings. Senior Braden Abatti (#2) batted in the Vikings’ first run of the ball game with a hard hit to the outfield. At the top of the seventh inning Angel Higuera (#7) hit a shot out to left field for an RBI double that cut Southwest’s lead in half.
Southwest decided to make a pitching change after Jazek (#2) gave up that last run in the top of the seventh. Coach Matthew Redden brought in their closer Dorian Meneses (#17) to finish the game for the Eagles. Meneses came to the mound strong by finishing the game for Jazek and shutting down any chances the Vikings had to continue their rally.
The game closed with Southwest defeating the Vikings 4-2, and now the Eagles will move on to face the Calexico Bulldogs for their second match-up in league play.[envira-gallery id=”76415″]
