BRAWLEY – Men and woman, ages 18 and over, lined up outside the Best Western Plus, Saturday afternoon for a chance to act as an extra for the locally filmed, “Bad Batch” movie, starring Keanu Reeves and Jim Carrey. Filming will commence next month in Niland and Bombay Beach.
“It’s something out of the ordinary,” said Tina Hargreaves from Brawley.
Hargreaves explained that the process was fast and simple, and enjoyed meeting people from the community that she had never met before.
“I’m a big fan of Jim Carrey,” said Serafin Fregoso, a Marine veteran from Holtville, “It’s an experience. How often are you ever involved in movies?”
“I hope it gives different people an opportunity to experience what it’s like to be on set,” said Film Commissioner Charlotte Stewart.
This was Fregoso’s second time attending a casting call. He also had worked as an extra for the movie Arms and Dudes with Jonah Hill.
Movies filmed in the Imperial Valley bring a boost to the economy. Arms and Dudes brought in an estimated $1.2 million dollars, and American Sniper brought in an estimated 800 thousand dollars to the community, according to Stewart.[envira-gallery id=”56099″]
