BRAWLEY – The BUHS graduating class of2013 held their Baccalaureate service Sunday afternoon at Gateway Church in Brawley.

Pastor Jonathon Archer Sr. introduced the speakers, Deacon Donald Spinney of Sacred Heart Church, Reverend James Pazan, First Presbyterina Church, and counselor Dale Howard of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Alison Moiola, one of the three parents organizing the event said, “We wanted this to be inclusive of all faiths, that was important to us.”

The BUHS graphics arts teacher, Jonathon Archer Jr. was the keynote speaker.

The class entered the full sanctuary as the Christian band played a rocking  Made Alive. After the band played several numbers, the senior class counselor, Susan Villon, started the afternoon off by welcoming the class of 2013 and their parents and speaking words of faith.

The other pastors spoke on remembering to take God with them as they begin their journey as adults. Reverend Pazan admonished them that once they entered ‘the promised land’ to thank the Lord for delivering them.

One of their own, Steven Martin, who played bass for the band, spoke about his own love of Jesus and how he desired his fellow classmates to know Him and also to call on His name.

When Mr. Archer took the stage, he had the students both thinking and laughing as he took them through creation, the fall of man, and King Solomon’s request for wisdom (at their age) and his later writings of Ecclesiastes where he looked for significance in his life through his work, his entertainment, and found it only through his relationship with God.

Archer asked each student to be yoked to Jesus, so their paths will be straight.

Afterwards, refreshments were offered in the fellowship hall.

The class will have their graduation ceremonies Thursday, June 13th, at 8:00 pm at Warne Field.
