AZ man dies after unsafe maneuver on I-8



chpOn April, 3, around 2:00 p.m., a 2012 Chevrolet Pick Up Truck was being driven by a male from Tempe, AZ, on I-8 westbound, west of Highway 98. 

A tractor-trailer combination (big rig) was traveling on I-8 eastbound, west of Highway 98 in the right hand lane.

 The party driving the Chevrolet made an unsafe turning movement and lost control of the vehicle.  The Chevrolet traveled across the dirt center median and directly into the path of the big rig.

  The vehicles collided head on in the right hand lane of I-8 eastbound.

 The 34- year-old Arizona man was ejected from the Chevrolet truck and sustained fatal injuries. 

The driver and passenger of the big rig sustained minor injuries during the collision and were both transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center.

  After this collision, the big rig caught fire and became fully engulfed. 

The right hand lane is currently closed, and will remain closed until the investigation and clean-up is completed.
