SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia released the following statement regarding Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr.’s State of the State Address:
“The Governor’s comments were energetic and hopeful” said Eduardo Garcia, chair of the Assembly Committee on Jobs, Economic Development, and the Economy. “I want to commend him for highlighting the challenges income inequality poses for Californians and for laying a vision for the future that resonates with people of the Coachella and Imperial Valleys – including better education for our children, infrastructure improvements, saving water, and refocusing on a cleaner environmental future,” Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia concluded.
In November 2015, Chair Garcia held a legislative hearing on California’s growing opportunity gap, including income disparities between geographic regions, race/ethnicities, and age groups. The principle hearing recommendation focused on the Legislature’s responsibility to look more closely at major state expenditures and ensure those moneys contribute to shared prosperity. Key funds being identified by JEDE include cap-and-trade auction revenues, infrastructure funds, and the state’s implementation of the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.
