SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) introduced AB 2056 Cal Grants. AB 2056 will require the California Student Aid Commission to allow school districts to submit student graduation information multiple times into electronic databases. The bill improves access to Cal Grants for eligible students.
“After listening to our students and educators in the district relating to barriers they face accessing financial aid dollars—something needed to be done. AB 2056 will build on our bill AB 1091 from last year to help eliminate administrative barriers for students and enhance access to the financial aid they need to attend college,” said Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia.
AB 2056 will:
- Require the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) to accept high school senior Graduation Verification submissions from school districts for on an on-going basis.
- This systematic revision in the submission of data between school districts and CSAC will remove another barrier in helping students qualify and access financial aid.
AB 2056 is sponsored by the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership (CVEP). CVEP and local partners have developed a Regional Plan for College and Career Success to align and leverage resources that supports the growth of an educated workforce in the Coachella Valley. One the areas of focus is a targeted campaign to help students increase access to available financial aid. AB 2056 will help bring students one step closer to higher education.
