“Through its education, job training, youth outreach and other programs, the Urban League brings hope and opportunity to communities. They are a significant force for goodness, and a valuable partner in the struggle for economic and social justice. I thank them for this recognition.”

“During his tenure, whether as Chair of the Jobs Committee, Vice Chair of the Latino Caucus or as Majority Leader, Assemblymember Manuel Pérez has advocated for policies that help transform the lives of Californians,” said James C. Shelby, GSUL President and CEO.

“Among his many efforts include economic investment in disadvantaged communities, educational equity and access, workforce training for the re-entry population, and helping low-income communities access the opportunities of the green economy. It’s a vision of empowerment, one that seeks to widen the circle of opportunity for all Californians.”
