Armando Mendez Jr. was born in Sacramento on October 21, 1995. He passed away on August 26, 2014 from an automobile accident.


Armando was employed at Service Masters.


As a wrestler, he received 2nd place in Grapplers Quest 2011 in Las Vegas, 1st Place in Teens NOGI Advance in the 150-169 lb. division, 3rd place in Teens NOGI Advance at the 170+lbs division, and Mens’ NOGI Advance, 170-179.9 lbs.


Armando had a 7-0 Amateur MMA record, was the Explode Amateur First Series welter weight champion and the 2nd youngest champion.



Chapel service will be on Friday, September 5 at Frye Chapel and Mortuary at 10:oo a.m. Pastor Mike Hurtado will officiate.


Visitation will be Thursday, September 4, at Frye Chapel and Mortuary at 8:oo a.m.


Burial will be on Friday, September 5, at Riverview Cemetery after the service.


Armando is preceded in death by his uncles Francisco Alcala, Harry Silver, Carlos Mendez, and his Grandfather, Salvador Mendez.


Armando is survived by his mother, Anita R. Gonzales of Brawley, his sister, Bianca Mendez of San Antonio, TX, his brother, Christian Mendez of Brawley, his father, Armando Mendez of Sacramento, CA, his grandmother, Jenny of Calipatria, nana Lucia Mendez of Sacramento, and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins survive Armando.


The family has a special thank you to Scooby, Ernie and Team United and Coach Steve Valdez.


  1. My condolences to the mother and family. I am sorry for the loss of your son. To the mother, I know what you are going thru and how you are feeling. I went thru the same in January 2014 when my son Justin was killed in an auto accident coming home from work. I want to say stay strong but honestly there will be many days that you just can’t. My prayers are with you and your family.
