Imperial County logoIMPERIAL COUNTY – Junior Fair Board students are a group of outstanding Imperial County youth who serve as Ambassadors for the California Mid-Winter Fair & Fiesta.

The requirements are simple; you must currently be a freshmen or sophomore in an Imperial County high school with a grade point average of 2.0 or better, and willing to make the activities of the Junior Fair Board your top priority up to and during the California Mid-Winter Fair & Fiesta.

Applicants need not be members of 4-H or FFA or have an animal, however experience handling animals is appreciated. As a Junior Fair Board member your responsibilities will include working with other schools as a team, interacting with community members and working with children so you must have excellent communication skills.

Throughout the year, the Junior Fair Board Team members will work together to promote agriculture and the mission statement of the California Mid-Winter Fair & Fiesta.

During the fair the responsibilities are many, including hosting and organizing various events such as: Adult and Mini Showmanship Competition, High School Madness, animal weigh-in’s, School Days, Special Persons’ Day, 4-H & FFA Round Robin, Championship Drive, and the Junior Fair Board Landscaping Project/Contest.

The highlight of your volunteer time and the majority of the time will be assisting with livestock shows which may involve working around a variety of animals such as: dogs, steers, cavies, ducks, chickens, pigs, lambs, cavies and rabbits.

In addition to volunteer work during the fair, participation in other events during the year such as parades are required. The fair does not provide transportation to these events so it is the responsibility of the individuals to get to the events and you must be willing to travel to other cities in Imperial County.

Accepting the position as a Junior Fair Board member is a big commitment and requires a very dedicated individual. If you do have the honor to serve as a member, it will be an experience of a lifetime.

Completed applications must be received at the Imperial Valley Expo Office by 4:00 p.m. on April 13, 2015. The IV Expo office is located at 200 East Second Street, Imperial, CA 92251. Final interviews will be held in April or May, date(s) and location to be determined. Selected individuals will serve a two-year term.
