Another Round of Small Earthquakes Rattle Salton Sea Area


SALTON SEA — About 35 small earthquakes rattled the Salton Sea area Monday morning.

The quakes, which began at 2:43 a.m., were relatively mild.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a magnitude-3.1 earthquake struck around 2:43 a.m., located 5 miles southwest of Niland.

Within the hour, a magnitude-3.0 and magnitude-3.3 earthquakes rattled the same area.

Around 3:41 a.m., a magnitude-3.6 quake rattled 6 miles north of Ocotillo Wells.

In late September, a swarm of around 200 earthquakes struck the region, prompting the California Office of Emergency Services to issue an earthquake advisory.

No injuries nor damage were reported.
