BRAWLEY – Last Wednesday, February 9, at 3:25 a.m. a driver whose name has been withheld due to fatal injuries, was driving her Nissan Titan the wrong way, north, on southbound Hwy 111 south of Wildcat Road at an unknown speed. The driver was 26 years old and from Imperial, CA.
Sandra Rascon Peralta, 44, of Stockton, CA was traveling southbound on Highway 111 with her Freightliner, tractor/trailer combination at her stated speed of 57 mph.
The Imperial woman and Peralta approached one another, when the Imperial woman crossed into the trucker’s lane and collided.
The left side of the Titan impacted with the left side of the Freightliner.
The impact caused the Nissan driver to sustain fatal injuries and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Despite the extensive damage to the Freightliner, Peralta was not injured in the collision.
Due to the impact, one of the diesel tanks on the Freightliner was ruptured and spilled fuel on the road and the west side dirt shoulder. As a result of the spillage, both southbound lanes of Highway 111 were closed and traffic was detoured to the Old Highway 111 for approximately four hours.
The traffic collision is still under investigation.
