Annual Farm Bureau Scholarship Barbeque Helps Support Local Students

EL CENTRO – Last year Imperial County Farm Bureau distributed more than $22,000 in scholarships to 24 students pursuing an education in agriculture. These scholarships are drawn from five different scholarship funds with the longest-standing being the Imperial County Farm Bureau Scholarship. This scholarship fund is supported each year by the annual Farm Bureau Scholarship BBQ, with net proceeds from the event being distributed to local students each summer.

This year’s fundraising BBQ is scheduled for Friday, April 24th, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Ryerson Hall in El Centro. Tickets are $8 per person and are available at the Farm Bureau office at 1000 Broadway in El Centro or by calling (760) 352-3831.

The event will feature their delicious deep pit barbeque, old fashion ice cream, live music, prize drawings and activities for the kids. Drive-thru and take-out orders will also be available. The Farm Bureau looks forward to having the community come out to support this tradition and our local students.

Scholarship applications are available at the Farm Bureau office or on their website at and must be submitted by April 20th. The program is open to local students who will be attending college this fall and are studying an agricultural-related career goal.

Anyone who is interested in more information on scholarships, or who would like to purchase tickets or sponsor the Farm Bureau Scholarship BBQ on April 24th are encouraged to contact Farm Bureau at (760) 352-3831 or Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door the day of the event.
