EL CENTRO – A jury found a man guilty of murder in the trial of a former high school football player who was stabbed to death.
Martin Andrade was convicted of first degree murder at the Imperial County Superior Court Tuesday.
Andrade was found guilty of murdering 17-year-old Martin Garza, a former Brawley Union High School student, at a party in El Centro in 2013.
Officers say Garza was stabbed in the chest by Andrade after an argument between the two. Garza was pronounced dead just hours after the incident in the emergency room at El Centro Regional Medical Center. Andrade was arrested by El Centro police officers a few days after the gang-related stabbing.
Andrade is facing 15 years to life in prison. It is still unknown when he will be scheduled to appear in court for sentencing.
