Accused Toddler Rapist Hiding In Calif. May Have Changed Appearance, Police Say

Investigators have developed further information that supports the belief Juan Hernandez Zuniga is hunkered down somewhere in California.

Police officials in Washington state say a man suspected of raping a 3-year-old girl at his Washington home in 2015 is likely hiding somewhere in California and may have changed his appearance to avoid arrest.

The multi-state manhunt continues for Juan Hernandez Zuniga, who likely traveled through California in an effort to flee to Mexico, Othello Police officials confirmed Tuesday. Zuniga was arrested in 2015. After he didn’t show up to a court date in March, a felony warrant was issued for his arrest.

According to Detective David Veloz, since last week, investigators have developed reliable information to support the belief Zuniga is hunkered down in California– most likely staying in the southern area of the state, afraid to cross the border.

In a previous interview, Assistant Chief David Rehaume told Patch Zuniga has family in Mexico.

“He has likely shaved, change his appearance in an attempt to evade police,” Veloz told Patch.

Police say they’ve alerted Border Patrol to be on the lookout for the suspected rapist but are also asking the public to keep an eye out for the man.

Zuniga has brown hair and brown eyes. He is about 5 foot 6 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds, according to police.
