Imperial Valley Faithful,
Once again we are calling the faith-based community to action this Tuesday, March 17th at El Centro City Hall.
There have been rumors flying around our community that Planned Parenthood has challenged individuals from the pro-choice community to be in attendance to voice their support for the local clinic.
We need your presence to signal to the council that the pro-life community is unwavering in our desire to keep abortion out of the Imperial County.
In light of the prospect of more pro-choice protesters being present, I would like to encourage you to remember that our great Gospel is a Gospel of grace.
The most attractive part of the message that Jesus has entrusted to our care is grace. There may be many in attendance that will be loud and offensive. Please do not engage them in debate.
I believe there is great strength in prayer and that our silence and our prayers in the face of opposition will speak more loudly than any words ever could. Jesus was mocked, He was scourged, He was spit upon, and eventually crucified; yet His prayer on the cross was “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” That is grace. Jesus is full of grace and truth. Let’s go be Jesus in our community.
Additionally, I would like to challenge the local church to a day of prayer and fasting. In Matthew 17, when Jesus returned from the Mount of Transfiguration, He was met by a father with a son who was an epileptic and demon possessed.
His disciples had been unable to help the boy and his father. Jesus was clear when He told them their ineffectiveness in this matter was due to their lack of faith, because that kind of evil can’t be dispelled “except through prayer and fasting.”
In prayer we enter into the presence of God with our petitions. In fasting we deny our flesh in order to pull away from the desire of the world and ever closer to God’s heart. Prayer and fasting together is the key to delivering our community from the scourge and evil of abortion.
Join me on Tuesday March 17th in approaching God’s throne in unity. Let us go into God’s presence on behalf of the lives of the innocent as well as for the safety and security of the women that abortion’s evil will prey upon.
My friends, I count it an honor to serve our community at your side. I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday night.
Hopefully and Expectantly,
