BRAWLEY – On April 27, 2017, at around 5:15 am, the Brawley Police Department Communications Center received the report of a stabbing at the El Redentor Assembly of God, located on the 300 block of North 9th Street.

Brawley police officers responded to the area and were directed by witnesses to the alleged suspect sitting on a bench waiting for officers. The suspect, 34 year-old Emilio Cervantes, was taken into custody without incident. The knife allegedly used was located in the area where the stabbing took place.

The stabbing victim, a 55 year old employee of the El Redentor Assembly of God, had been transported to Pioneers Memorial Hospital by a friend immediately after the stabbing. The victim had sustained a single stab wound to the upper chest.  The victim is listed in stable condition

Emilio Cervantes was booked into the Imperial County Jail on the charge of attempted murder.

This remains a pending criminal investigation. No further details can be disclosed at this time.
