Small Earthquake Centered Near Niland Tuesday Morning

IMPERIAL COUNTY — A magnitude 3.0 earthquake struck near Niland early Tuesday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey.

About 35 small earthquakes rattled the southern Salton Sea area in October, about six weeks after an earthquake “swarm” led officials to issue an alert warning of an increased possibility for a major earthquake event.

Residents as far away as San Diego County reported feeling the quake. No damage or injuries were reported as a result of the temblor.
