EL CENTRO – The Garza family experienced some closure over the death of their son as the man convicted of first-degree murder heard his sentence at court Thursday afternoon.

Judge Raymond Cota at the Imperial County Superior Courthouse sentenced Martin Gabriel Andrade to 50 years to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

A jury found the 21-year-old guilty of murder in early May after several weeks of trial.

Andrade killed Martin Alberto Garza, 17, by stabbing him during a fight at a house party in El Centro back in January 2013.

The El Centro Police Department arrested Andrade at his home in Heber just days after the murder.
