EL CENTRO – Local talent competed in the 6th annual El Centro Music Festival and Fireworks show in the annual Battle of the Bands for the title of “Best in El Centro” at Stark Field, Saturday.
Local bands consisted of Fay Rosas and The Sultan of Blues on the side stage and The Shades of Blues with lead singer Kelly Graves on the main stage as the headlining band. Guest danced as music played, cheering each band as they took the stage.
Patrons enjoyed a giant paint ball area earlier in the day, complete with referees and target shooting, while children played the kiddy corner with face painting, jumpers, and games available for them.
“I always come every year, my family enjoys it so much because of the different booths and music they provide,” said Isabel Viejas of El Centro about the Music Festival.
Local and regional organizations offered a wide variety of food which guests enjoyed during the Music Festival and Firework show.
As the night grew closer, families set up camp to get a front row seat for firework show that concluded the yearly event.
“I came to see Shades of Blue, I love them and think they are so good,” Ricardo Martin of Calexico.
Last year this event grew a crowd near 3,000, this year the estimated amount of guest of the Music Festival was 5,000 according to the El Centro parks and recreation flyer.
