BRAWLEY-The Brawley Elks Lodge held a dinner Friday night for sponsors and participants for the 4th Annual Golf Tournament Friday evening. The event consisted of two days of activities, starting with dinner catered by local restaurants, Las Chabelas and The Courtroom.
On Saturday, golfers registered for the Charity Golf Tournament at 7 am at the Del Rio Golf Course. A total of 19 teams, consisting of 3 to 4 players, participated in this year’s tournament.
Every year the Elks Lodge of Brawley puts together the Golf Tournament for local golfers and sponsors to help local charities. This is the first year that the Elks lodge is doing the ‘Charity Challenge.’ In the ‘Charity Challenge’ each Team gets to pick their charity of choice through Leading Knight Charities, and the winner of the Tournament can then decide where they want the charity dollars to go. Leading Knight Charities is a charity program that assists in other local charities.
“This was first established to help the community with scholarships and to give at a local level, like to our Boys and Girls Club, to Brawley and Calipat,” Said Carlos Weir local restaurant owner of Las Chabelas, a participant and sponsor in the tournament.
After the Tournament, golfers and guest enjoyed a luncheon at the Elks Lodge that sponsored by Northwestern Mutual. somewhere between thirty five to forty sponsors supplied gifts for the players and prizes for a raffle. Prizes ranged from a wine basket donated by Brawley Superior Furniture to a Helicopter ride at Reach Air Medical services. Other sponsors donated supplies for the dinner and luncheon held for the golfers and guests.
